Perhaps this will help me stay determined and motivated to keep this Blog up. 30 days would pretty much top my previous feeble 'Diary' attempts. Perhaps I'll learn more about myself. Or perhaps I won't. Either way, I'm sure it will be more productive than re-runs of Two and a Half Men.

And So It Begins...
I remember when I was younger, I twice attempted to keep a diary. Never once kept it up any longer than a couple of months. So I guess this is my modern attempt at a diary. Here's hoping I can keep it going a little longer this time! I spend enough time sitting on this laptop so I really should have no excuse!
It's Monday 28th February 2011. I am 23 years old. I have been for almost a week now. Guess this is my mid-life crisis kicking in early. The main reason I am writing this is because I am sick of sitting for hours on end thinking everything over again and again. I've never been the kind of person who can just switch off, so I guess maybe if I can get these thoughts into words, it might help me make sense of everything. Or it might not. Can't hurt to give it a go!
January 2010 was pretty much when my life went tits-up. I pinpoint this time when Annie and I started falling apart. For whatever reason, the relationship deteriorated and it just wasn't as fun as it used to be. That's not saying it wasn't fun; we still had our fair share of laughs and she was still my best friend. We did everything together. In June, we broke up. And since then, my head has literally been all over the place. I have felt pretty much every emotion in the book: Heartbreak, anger, optimism, disappointment, confusion, shock. And the whole debacle has made me question who I am and what I want. After all, with Annie we had our whole life planned out together. Wedding, kids, Canada, pig, rottweiler etc. It was all done and dusted and the next 60 years of my life were layed out in front of me to see. And that's all I wanted. That's all I've ever wanted. I've never asked for alot, I only ever wanted to follow in my Parent's footsteps and fall in love, have a great family and be happy.
I try my best not to think of Annie. It's easier when I don't speak to her, see her, or hear about her. But like anyone from your past, you always wonder "What are they up to?". I got back in touch with an old friend this year, and it was the best decision I have made in a long time. I've missed this person, I've missed her wisdom and honesty. I've missed her stories. I've missed her optimism and positive view on life. I've needed someone like this over the last year, and it's good to have her back in my life. So I guess every cloud has a silver lining. I've actually got back in touch with alot of old friends since the break-up, and on paper, I have had a good time.
I just feel like I am in limbo. After having everything mapped out, I now suddenly find myself double-taking everything I do in life. I've been saving, but I don't know what for. All I know is that change is needed. I'd love to fall in love and do it all over again, because I will never forget how good a life in love can be. When you're in that bubble, whether it's right or wrong, you are the two happiest people on the planet and nothing can bring you down. But there's nobody I know this side of the Atlantic who even remotely excites me. And in all fairness, I probably don't excite them! I mean, let's face it. I'm 23 and I still get spots. I officially have the world's most unmanageable hair. I murder my fair share of ballads on the karaoke at the local. I really want to learn to stand on my own two feet without a woman. I want to decide what I want to do, and do it. I have had my fair share of dates the last few months. And I have dated some absolutely wonderful people, and have had some really great dates. But I just don't have a clue what I want. I find it very difficult going out with the guys and not looking for girls, or not having the intention of pulling. I actually envy people who are happily single and can go out and have fun without worrying about impressing the opposite sex. I guess a girl makes you feel good for one night, makes you feel wanted and good-looking. Instant gratification.
Work has been a pain. I really want to go travelling. I've never been outside of Europe, and I really want to see the world. Unfortunately, not living at home is an issue. I have a house and ALOT of furniture, and a housemate. I can't just get up and go. I also have my job. And I can't get any time off as unpaid leave, so that's put a spanner in the works. But my passion is to go travelling, the more I think about it, the more I want to do it. I need to figure out how to do it, and when.
I still have Jack's Mannequin. I swim for brighter days despite the absence of sun. I need to get my head in the game, make a plan and execute that plan. Unfortunately, Love for the most part is easy. Up until this point, my life has been easy. Change intimidates me. But change is inevitable, so I need to just "Man up". I'm 23, I still have the world at my feet. To borrow a friend's line, I guess you need a full spectrum of experiences to appreciate the good times! Bottom line is I have a wonderful family, a handful of great friends who are there for me, and good health. There are so many people who would kill for that.
And on that note, I think I have cheered myself up. A weight off my mind. Success :D I think I deserve a beer.
Luke.
